BEST (Building Excellence, Sustainability and Trust)Jennifer M. Acree Service provided by consultant: Pence Consulting is in the consultants pool for the BEST Project. Current clients include: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint, Jewish Community Services, Christ Enrichment Center and the Flint Public Library. BEST (Building Excellence, Sustainability and Trust) is a comprehensive, capacity building program in Flint and Genesee County Michigan. The BEST Project is an initiative of the Flint Funders Collaborative (FFC). FFC members include the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, the Ruth Mott Foundation and the United Way of Genesee County. BEST brings together regional funders, consultants, technical assistance providers, and nonprofit agencies to achieve a more viable, sustainable and effective nonprofit community. Mission Statement To strengthen the nonprofit sector of Flint and Genesee County by providing capacity building support and technical assistance. Great Lakes Center for Youth DevelopmentJudy Watson Olson, CEO/President Service provided by consultant: Established and maintained client relationship since 1995. Initially was hired as a consultant for the Kellogg Initiative Partnerships (KYIP) a program of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation. As a KYIP Consultant Carole J. Pence provided technical support for grant funded projects; worked on Community Development promoting Positive Youth Development; managed the Americas Promise Initiative; ran a "Put the You into Youth" Campaign promoting the Search Institute's 40 Development Assets; and coordinated an endowment campaign, Excellence in Education, that currently has a pledge total of $1.7 million. Today, KYIP is known as the Great Lakes Center for Youth Development (The Center). Lawrence Technological UniversityJerry Lindman, Director, Center for Nonprofit Management Service provided by consultant: Pence created and design a three credit graduate class that was first offered in May 2005 and 2006 titled Comprehensive Fund Development for Nonprofit Organizations (MGT6083) as part of their Nonprofit Management series. In addition to offering it as a graduate course this course was offered as a non-credit seminar for nonprofit executives to take the course. The course was designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of fund development for charitable (501c3) nonprofit organizations. It addresses basic principles and skills of all areas essential to a complete fund development program and introduces unique management competencies of each. Legal Services of Northern MichiganKen Penokie, Director Service provided by consultant: Writing the fund development plan and implementation of a campaign to raise money for a $100,000.00 endowment fund. Legal Services of South Central MichiganRobert Gillett, Director Service provided by consultant: Assistance in developing and implementing a comprehensive fundraising plan that can be used by all office in their fundraising efforts. To enhance organizational material that can be used in local relationship building, community awareness of services provided and fundraising. Michigan Historical Center FoundationSandra Clark, Director Service provided by consultant: Pence Consulting contracted with the Michigan Historical Center Foundation for a period of two years to develop a strategy for their $1.8 million dollar Capital Campaign. Michigan State Bar FoundationLinda K. Rexer, Executive Director Service provided by consultant: Currently providing consulting for the Access to Justice Campaign. Assisting client in creating a plan for endowment building. Nonprofit Alliance at Kellogg Community CollegeTeresa Durham, Executive Director Service provided by consultant: Sponsored and taught the Fund Raising for Small Nonprofits, a program through the Fund Raising School. All workshop participants were offered fundraising consulting as part of their scholarship provided by the W.K.Kellogg Foundation for attending. 26 nonprofit organizations took advantage of these services. Services provided included Writing the Development Plan, Board Training, Development and Solicitation Strategies, and Mentoring. The Nonprofit Alliance has received an additional grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation to continue this program in the fall of this year. OSF St. Francis HospitalJim Wayne, CFO Service provided by consultant: Fundraising Consulting for a campaign to raise $2.6 million dollars, $5 million raised. Schoolcraft Memorial HospitalFred Makowski, CEO Service provided by consultant: Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital is building a new hospital. Pence Consulting is the fundraising counsel for this campaign. St. Michael Catholic ChurchMsgr. Jed Patrick Service provided by consultant: A $1 million dollar capital improvement campaign called "Opening New Doors, Disciples Growing in Community". Campaign and renovation completed in 2006. St. Paul's Episcopal ChurchPat Micklow Deacon and Chairperson Service provided by consultant: Fund Raising Counsel for St. Paul's Remember, Rejoice and Renew Campaign. Campaign goal is $300,000. Services include assisting the team to develop a plan for fundraising; identification of major donor markets; goals for markets; timelines; strategies for current contributors; developing of packet and/or presentation material for advanced gift phase; and brochure for public phase of the campaign. Consulting completed. The Center on Philanthropy at Indiana UniversityMaria Mandel, Contracts Program Coordinator Service provided by consultant: Since 1993 Pence Consulting has contracted with the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, the Fund Raising School to sponsor their courses in Michigan. The firm has offered over 80 courses in Michigan and educated over 700 individuals. The Fund Raising School has a Certificate in Fund Raising Management Certificate and out of the 700 people, 50 people have completed their Certificate in Fund Raising Management in Michigan.
